  • Immediately after your dermal filler treatment, you may notice some common side effects which should resolve themselves over the next few days to weeks:

    ⚡️ Swelling
    ⚡️ Bruising
    ⚡️ Red needle puncture marks
    ⚡️ Tenderness
    ⚡️ Itching
⚡️ Asymmetry (especially in lips as the top lip tends to swell more than the bottom)

    Bruising Relief

Patients on aspirin, fish oil, or other drugs associated with increased bruising may find their risk increased. For the treatment of bruising, there are over-the-counter treatments available, including Arnica and Hirudoid.

    Cold Sores

Oral herpes is a common complication of lip filler treatments. Some clients choose to go on Lysine or an antiviral preventatively. If you do notice that you’re getting a cold sore after your injectable lip treatment. Please call your injector for an assessment. Antiviral oral drugs or topicals may be prescribed and also a special dressing for oral herpes sores can be helpful.

    Symmetry Issues

Asymmetry after dermal filler is common due to bruising and swelling. Symmetry after a dermal filler treatment should not be assessed for 2-4 weeks. No person has perfect symmetry to start with but your injector will do their best to improve the symmetry in your lips or face.

    Complications

Cosmetic complications include vascular occlusion and infection. Vascular occlusions mostly occur in the treatment chair, and your injector will be able to detect and appropriately treat should an occlusion arise. An area may go white, or discoloured in a proximal area to the injection site. After an occlusion, there may be an area that has small blisters on the skin. If clients see any of these symptoms, they should call their injector immediately. Early infections may occur a few days after the treatment. The patient might notice increasing redness, tenderness, swelling, pain, heat, nodules, or pus. Patients should see their injector who may refer them to their GP.
